Amir Khan (British boxer)Amir Khan (boxer) – Current title is ambiguous as Khan is both British AND Pakistani. We could move Amir Khan (Pakistani boxer) to Amir Khan (amateur boxer), but I say this is the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC for Amir Khan (boxer). Launchballer 15:45, 31 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose He was born and raised in England, I don't think ethnicity is important. To avoid confusion for those that it is important I would have no issues with the move but then the big problem is what to do with Amir Khan (Pakistani boxer) - what happens if he becomes professional. In my opinion the latter is not notable and I have submitted it to AfD - if deleted the move would be a non-issue.Peter Rehse (talk) 22:28, 31 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
It's not long since it was moved in the opposite direction, see here and the history at 14:03, 26 January 2014. Mr Stephen (talk) 22:49, 31 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I put that there as an alternative suggestion - I fully stand by moving this article to Amir Khan (boxer) on the grounds that this boxer is a far more likely search term to the other, and PRehse has AfDd the other article.--Launchballer 09:59, 1 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
How about we postpone this until the AfD is over? -- 65.94.171.126 (talk) 04:40, 3 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, that's not a bad idea. I could technically withdraw this requested move because there are no support votes. Okay, I'll provisionally withdraw this.--Launchballer 10:36, 3 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Amir Khan (British boxer)Amir Khan (boxer) – I withdrew the other one until the AfD for Amir Khan (Pakistani boxer) was over; now that it has been deleted, the disambiguation of 'British' is unnecessary. Launchballer 08:22, 9 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

If the move goes ahead please make sure the links to the article are meant to go to the new article. My attempts to delink the deleted Amir Khan have met with some resistance.Peter Rehse (talk) 16:12, 9 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
The proposed title has no links to it from articles. Peter James (talk) 18:24, 9 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
It was changed to Aamir.Peter Rehse (talk) 20:10, 9 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I don't see how this is separate from the previous requested move because this is essentially a reopening of it.--Launchballer 19:10, 9 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
The "Requested move 2" section has the template with the result and "No further edits should be made to this section" notice, so unless the closure is undone a new section is needed for a new request; there's also the fact that most of the issues raised in RM2 no longer apply. Peter James (talk) 19:50, 9 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The above discussion is preserved as an archive of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on this talk page or in a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.

"two-time former world champion"

[edit]

Could someone confirm the basis/rationale for him being described as a "two-time former champion"? I've seen this description used at various (e.g. a Guardian article around a year ago, recent GQ and Daily Mail articles and also his twitter profile) but am unclear on how this is accurate. Per the rest of the article and boxrec page, he has one various titles (WBO Inter-Continental lightweight title, WBA International lightweight title, WBA International welterweight title, WBC Silver welterweight title, WBO Inter-Continental lightweight title, Commonwealth (British Empire) lightweight title) but only has one world title reign: WBA World super lightweight title, later alongside the IBF World super lightweight title, from Jul 09 to Dec 12. As far as I'm aware, simultaneously holding different versions doesn't qualify (e.g. Tyson Fury isn't described as a four-time champion for holding multiple variations of the heavyweight title). The only doubt in my mind is whether it count as a second reign that he was reinstated as champion after the Peterson defeat? 81.27.93.179 (talk) 18:23, 4 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Aha, you are indeed right. I never noticed that despite tinkering with the lead, record and succession boxes for a year now. I'll re-word it. And no, his reinstatement as WBA champion after the Peterson loss should not count as a second reign. Mac Dreamstate (talk) 19:02, 4 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

No evidence for naqshabdi order

[edit]

the link for the statement that amir khan is part of the naqshabdi order does not work. Also a twitter link is not sufficient evidence. Please delete this statement. Thanks 86.5.202.27 (talk) 23:32, 27 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
